Lawrance Delano Mayes, Sr. was born in Charlotte, NC and is married to the former Betty Ann Young. Mr. and Mrs. Mayes are proud parents of three children Sonya, Tracy and Lawrance, Jr. and three grandchildren, Justin Mayes-Dickerson, Naomi and Kennedy Oliver.

 

After 37 years of service, Mr. Mayes retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. During his years with CMS, he served in the following capacities: Teacher (Westerly Hills and Long Creek Elementary), Assistant Principal (Lansdowne, Hickory Grove and Randolph Junior High School), and Principal (Allenbrook, Smithfield Elementary and MGLA). Mr. Mayes was the founding principal of the Military and Global Leadership Academy.

 

Mr. Mayes currently serves as the Senior Pastor of the Grace Memorial Missionary Baptist, Inc. in Charlotte, NC.

Ann Marie Laszewski grew up in a small town called Glens Falls in upstate NY  and moved to Charlotte NC in 1995 where she began teaching at West Mecklenburg High School as a Social Studies teacher.  At West Meck she taught US History, World History and ELP. She was promoted to Department Chair and School Leadership Chair and it is there where she was pushed to move into school administration.

 

In 2002 she earned a promotion to Olympic High School as Instructional Accountability Facilitator and it is there where she fulfilled her Principal Internship.  She was offered an Assistant Principal Position at Olympic where she assisted with transforming Olympic from one comprehensive High School to a 5 small schools. This model was to ensure the personalization of education for EVERY child.

Her passion for small schools with personalized learning led her to Marie G. Davis in 2008.  With Mr. Lawrence Mayes she helped open CMS’s new magnet program.  Originally the school was meant to be a 6-12 Global Leadership program however that would change in 2011 when younger grades were added!

 

Mrs. Laszewski was promoted to Principal of MGLA in March 2013. She continues to push for the academic excellence paired with global leadership and service.  She is committed to the belief that MGLA is on their way to being the best global leadership academy for the world.

Jolundra Anderson currently serves as Assistant Principal at the Military and Global Leadership Academy at Marie G. Davis.  She has served in education for 13 years.  Before becoming an assistant principal, Mrs. Anderson served as a teacher and facilitator.  She is an Alabama native and her educational background include degrees from Alabama State University, East Tennessee State University and Wingate University. Mrs. Anderson is passionate about making school a place where students and faculty feel welcomed, valued, and a part of the community.  She strongly believes that when teachers, staff, parents, and students work together, we can create a school that is truly exemplary.  When she is not in the school, Mrs. Anderson enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and reading.

Ms. Lisa Bowman is one of two assistant principals at the Military and Global Leadership Academy at Marie G. Davis. She has worked within Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for almost 23 years and has lived in Charlotte, North Carolina all her life.  As an undergraduate, she attended Winston Salem State University.  From there, she received a BA and a BS in Elementary Education and Psychology within four years.   She has taught grades third through eighth grade in CMS.  From her many experiences, she later on became a middle school math facilitator.  Having enjoyed working with students and teachers, she decided to go back to school.  She received her Master of Arts in School Leadership from Gardner Webb University.  As one of her goals is to be a life-long learner, she is currently seeking additional educational opportunities to further her career.
